Homeopathy stimulates the bodies own defence mechanism or immune-system by the use of highly diluted and potentized remedies.

Historical Facts

Although the beginning of Homeopathy can be traced back to the ancient Greeks, it was in the eighteenth century that the German doctor Samuel Hahnemann discovered its full potential. Dissatisfied with the medical practices of his time, he searched for a healing method that could cure the patient gently, quickly and safely.

His experience of working with sick people led him to believe, together with ancient healers before him such as Paracelsus and Hippocrates, that human body has the capacity to cure itself. Symptoms of illness, he argued, were nothing more than the visible signs of this selfhealing process. Instead of suppressing the symptoms, it would therefore make more sense to stimulate them and by so doing, to activate the body’s health restoring powers. After years of research he developed his new therapy: Homeopathy.

Hahnemann’s method proved to be extremely successful. For example in 1813 he treated 183 cases of typhus during the epidemic in Central Europe. Only one died - a mortality rate of 0.5%. Amongst those treated with conventional medicine over 50% did not survive.

Before antibiotics were invented, Homeopathy was widely accepted in Europe and the United States and it often proved superior to conventional treatment in acute life-threatening diseases. Homeopathy still produces extremely positive results in cases of chronic illnesses and conditions.

What Is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is an effective complementary treatment, based upon a holistic approach to health. It looks at the whole person and the root-cause of the illness, not just at the specific symptoms.

Homeopathy has one objective: to stimulate the bodies own defence mechanism or immune-system. By strengthening our own natural healing forces, we can overcome illness and enjoy good health.

Homeopathy is based on the following principle:

  • a substance taken in a toxic dose will produce  certain specific symptoms of illness in a healthy person. That same substance, taken in a minimum dose, can cure a sick person with similar symptoms. The diluted dose stimulates, without any side-effects the body’s own defence system and initiates the process of self-healing.

Samuel Hahnemann described this as the law of similarities or the cure of ”like with like”.

Such a mechanism is already known in the field of immunisation. For example, the diluted cowpox serum was used successfully in the immunisation against smallpox.

A homeopathic example for symptoms which are similar to those of a bee-sting (pale-red swelling, stinging pain), would be the preparation of ”Apis”, the bee. It would alleviate the condition.

Homeopathy is scientifically based and developed through controlled experimental testing. Human volunteers are used for this research: there is no animal testing!

When Is Homeopathy useful?

Homeopathy can treat a wide range of acute and chronic diseases. It can also build up  your constitutional strength and thereby help you to remain in good health throughout your life and into old age. Because Homeopathy does not have any known side-effects or negative interaction with other medication, it proves to be especially helpful when treating children, pregnant women  and highly sensitive patients. Homeopathy works by stimulating our immune-system.

The better the immune-system, the quicker the response to the treatment. This explains why a chronic condition (where there is often a weakened immune-system) takes longer to treat and why homeopathic treatment of children, who generally still  have a very good immune-response can work quickly and efficiently. Conventional medication and surgical operations can have a damaging effect on our immune-system.

Whenever possible substitute ”heavy” medical drugs and surgery for homeopathic treatment. As Homeopathy treats the body and the mind within its holistic approach, it can also  prove helpful with a wide range of psychological and psychosomatic problems.

In order to find the correct homeopathic  remedies for the specific and personal condition, Sven Sommer uses an extensive Interview during the first consultation (60-90 minutes). He may also use clinical examination-methods, Iridology, Pulse and Tongue-diagnoses, Ear-acupuncture and if appropriate, he will also suggest dietary advise or recommendations concerning vitamins, minerals and herbs.
